Weightlifting and Running

lifting barbells

Will weight lifting help with my running?  Yes it will and here’s how: Flexibility: using weights will actually you get to a better range of motion. This translates into better mobility and a better stride. The weight from a barbell will actually be able to help “push you down” into a squat for enhancing flexibility. Strength: The stronger your legs, the less energy you use to maintain a faster pace hence, decreasing your time! Stronger muscles equals less stress on joints and ligaments and less overuse injuries. Add a strength workout to your running program! Squats, lunges, dead lifts and box jumps for lower body; curls, bench, shoulder press and triceps for upper body. Don’t be afraid of the barbell, it’s a great tool to enhance your overall performance and athleticism!
